C-DAY is Conversion Day, when your district will be changed over from manufactured gas to High Speed Gas from the North Sea. That’s about four months from now. C-Day is when we will start to convert the appliances in your district to burn Natural Gas - that’s going to mean safer, and cheaper gas for everyone. Before C-Day, Board officials (with authorised pass cards) will call at your home to survey the number of appliances needing conversion. Should you wish to consider changing any of your gas appliances, in addition to our normal trade-in allowance we are also prepared to deduct conversion costs from the price of new replacement appliances. Our representative will call within the next few weeks to give you full details.

A lot. When gas appliances in your district are converted to High Speed Gas, you’ll be taking a big step forward into the modern age. Gas from the North Sea is completely non-poisonous, so it’s a whole lot safer. It also gives twice the heat value for the same volume of gas when compared with manufactured gas. This means that it is cheaper to distribute - a benefit that will be passed on to all users of High Speed Gas. It is also immensely important to the national economy - and not only because it will lower the cost of manufactured goods and thus increase Britain’s competitive position in export markets, but also because coming from beneath our own waters it will cut fuel imports from overseas and thus greatly strengthen our balance of trade position.

BECAUSE until recently the advanced technical equipment for finding and utilising this cheap, natural source of high quality fuel simply wasn’t available.

BECAUSE of the differences in composition of Natural Gas and manufactured gas, special burners are needed to utilize the greater heat value of Natural Gas efficiently. Clearly, it is not possible for two kinds of gas to be run through the same pipes at the same time, so when a district is changed to Natural Gas, everybody has to have their appliances converted.

NOT a penny. The Board bears the complete cost of conversion, which they estimate will work out at around £30 per householder. Moreover, from C-day your gas will be cheaper.

YES; but the Board will try to minimise the inconvenience and to convert all appliances as quickly as possible.

THE work will normally be spread of five days. By the end of the first day, all houses should have some cooking facilities, and, if it is winter, where gas is the only means of heating, some heating facilities.

IN its natural state North Sea Gas has no smell, but a chemical will be added at the shore stations so that the gas has an easily recognisable smell similar to the old gas.

BE happy that you’re moving ahead into the modern age of High Speed Gas from the North Sea.
PLEASE NOTE AND ACT UPON ALL LETTERS RECEIVED FROM THE BOARD REGARDING YOUR NEW GAS SUPPLY, AND CO-OPERATE WITH US WHEN REQUESTED TO ENSURE A SMOOTH AND TROUBLE-FREE CONVERSION FOR ALL INVOLVED.
